The ebm-papst group emerged from the long-established companies ebm, PAPST and mvl offers a variety of products of engines and ventilators. The core competence of the world market leader is the perfect cooperation of engine technique, fluid engineering and electronics. With over 10,000 products ebm-papst operates in various markets from power transmission, automotive and rail technology to heating, air, climate and refridgeration engineering. With 9677 employees at 17 production plants worldwide the company achieved revenue of over one billion Euros in 2008/9. At the end of 2008 ebm-papst St.Georgen started a process improvement initiative with support from Method Park. The objective of this project is to improve the performance of the product development processes in the automotive sector using CMMI as a tool for planning the improvements. Method Park consultants provided expertise on the adoption of CMMI helping the customer to identify the improvement opportunities and define the related process solutions. Apart from that Method Park supports ebm-papst also in the introduction and rollout of Stages as a process management tool for both business and product development processes. The project has been conceived into more iterations in order to incrementally implement the CMMI process areas according to the business priority of ebm-papst. Recently the first iteration of the project has been completed.
